Health Tip: Teach Kids About Snack Safety

By Diana Kohnle, HealthDay Reporter

(HealthDay News) -- When hungry kids get home from school, make sure they know how to fix a healthy snack -- and which foods to avoid.

The Foodsafety.gov website suggests avoiding:

  • Any perishable foods that haven't been refrigerated, such as pizza.

  • Any perishable leftovers from the lunchbox, such as all or part of a sandwich.

  • Raw cookie dough.

  • Raw fruits and veggies that are bruised or appear spoiled.

  • Bread or soft cheese that appears moldy.
