Health Tip: Chewing Sugar-Free Gum

By Diana Kohnle, HealthDay Reporter

(HealthDay News) -- If you want to keep your teeth healthy and help prevent tooth decay, chewing sugar-free gum may be a good place to start.

The Mouthhealthy.org website suggests how to choose a sugar-free gum:

  • Look for a sugarless gum with the American Dental Association Seal.

  • Choose gum that contains aspartame, sorbitol, mannitol or xylitol, which are sweeteners that don't cause cavities.

  • Don't let gum replace basic dental hygiene, such as regular brushing and flossing.
