Health Tip: Keep a Food Diary

By Diana Kohnle, HealthDay Reporter

(HealthDay News) -- If you want to watch your weight and make sure you're eating healthy foods in healthy amounts, log what you eat in a food diary.

The Weight-loss Information Network says you should write down, in a computer, smartphone or journal:

  • Everything you ate and drank.

  • When and where you ate each item.

  • How much you ate of each item.

  • Why you ate each item.

Read through the diary to help determine what triggers you to eat too much, or why you eat foods that are unhealthy.
