(HealthDay News) -- One of the toughest parts of sticking to a healthy eating plan is giving up your favorite comfort foods, from macaroni and cheese to candy.
That may not be entirely necessary, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. The CDC suggests:
- Don't entirely give up comfort foods, but eat them less frequently than usual and cut back gradually over time.
- Indulge in a smaller portion size, for example, a half serving of a chocolate bar.
- Prepare comfort foods using lower-fat ingredients, such as skim milk or light cheese.
